Multi-Purpose Oak Outdoor Gazebo

A bespoke oak gazebo designed to enhance a private garden space in a rural residential setting, creating the perfect outdoor seating and dining areas.

Project Value: £10,000 – £20,000

Client Requirements

The client approached us with the aim of creating a high-quality, sheltered garden structure that would provide comfort, durability, and visual harmony with the surrounding landscape. They were looking for a space that could be enjoyed in all seasons and serve both functional and aesthetic purposes within the garden design.

Key requirements included:

– A robust oak frame that would age beautifully and complement the natural setting

– Weather protection without compromising views or light

– A timeless design combining traditional materials with subtle modern features

– A structure that would require minimal ongoing maintenance

– A design that could tie in with existing garden features, such as brickwork and paving

This brief called for a thoughtful balance between craftsmanship, practicality, and style—one that would deliver lasting value and daily enjoyment.

Our Solution

To meet the client’s vision, we designed a bespoke oak-framed gazebo that blends traditional craftsmanship with modern practicality. The structure features a robust frame made from sustainably sourced green oak, jointed using traditional techniques to ensure both strength and visual appeal. To provide year-round protection from the elements while maintaining an open and airy feel, they installed full-height, toughened glass panels on three sides of the structure. These allow uninterrupted views of the surrounding garden and bring in natural light, creating a seamless connection between indoor comfort and the outdoor setting.

The roof was finished with handmade clay tiles, chosen for their durability and timeless character, echoing the materials used in nearby garden structures. At the base, low-level brickwork forms a continuous plinth around the perimeter, integrating the gazebo into the existing hard landscaping and providing a solid foundation for the glazing. Inside, luxurious seating was installed, painted to create a welcoming retreat. They also incorporated discreet lighting provisions, allowing for ambient evening use and extending the gazebo’s functionality beyond daylight hours.

Result

The finished gazebo delivered on all fronts, transforming an unused corner of the garden into a focal point for relaxation and socialising. Its open design, combined with glazed weatherproofing, allows the space to be enjoyed throughout the year while preserving a sense of connection to the surrounding landscape. The oak frame brings warmth and craftsmanship, and the materials used will continue to mature gracefully over time with minimal maintenance.

Feedback from the client has been overwhelmingly positive, with particular praise for the quality of the frame and the ease of install. The gazebo now serves not only as a peaceful retreat for everyday use but also as an attractive venue for entertaining guests, enhancing both the lifestyle and value of the property.

OAK FRAMING PROCESS

We care about the timber frame design and build process that comes from our European oak.

The oak starts its journey when the acorn germinates and produces that spark of life. We start from the planting of the seedling, through the nurturing, growth and selection of the oak tree, to its harvesting, cutting, planing and manufacturing to produce the desired effect.
