Oak Garages for New Property Development

A new property development in Cheshire, featuring three bespoke oak garages and a porch.

Project Value: £25,000 – £50,000

Client Requirements

A property developer in rural Cheshire required a set of oak-framed structures that would complement the traditional farmhouse aesthetic of the site while providing durable, practical spaces for future inhabitants. The brief included two 2-bay garages, one 3-bay garage with an enclosed storage bay, and an oak-framed porch for one of the rental homes. Each structure needed to sit naturally within the rural surroundings, enhance curb appeal, and contribute to the overall cohesion of the development.

Our Solution

We designed and crafted a suite of oak frames that blended authenticity, performance and visual harmony.

– Two 2-Bay Oak Garages: Each garage was built using traditional green oak posts and beams with open-fronted bays to maximise accessibility. Mortise-and-tenon joints, robust corner bracing and carefully selected timber ensured strength while delivering the rustic, timeless look the client desired.

– Three-Bay Oak Garage with Enclosed Storage: For the larger garage, we incorporated an enclosed bay to provide secure storage for tools, equipment or bikes. The oak frame was complemented by timber cladding and brick plinth detailing to tie into surrounding buildings.

– Oak-Framed Porch: The porch was designed to enhance the frontage of the home, creating a welcoming, characterful entrance that mirrors the traditional farmhouse style. A feature king post truss, a pitched roof and solid oak posts give it structure and charm while offering everyday weather protection.

Across all structures, the oak was left untreated to age naturally, allowing the frames to mellow into their countryside setting over time.

Result

The completed project has significantly enhanced both the usability and architectural appeal of the rural homes. The garages provide practical, long-lasting parking and storage solutions, while maintaining a consistent aesthetic across the development. The enclosed bay adds secure storage without disrupting the open, airy design of the other garages. The porch elevates the property’s kerb appeal, delivering a warm and authentic first impression. Collectively, the oak frames have created a cohesive, high-quality environment that supports the developer’s aim of offering desirable, character-rich rural rental homes that will continue to improve as the timber naturally weathers.

OAK FRAMING PROCESS

We care about the timber frame design and build process that comes from our European oak.

The oak starts its journey when the acorn germinates and produces that spark of life. We start from the planting of the seedling, through the nurturing, growth and selection of the oak tree, to its harvesting, cutting, planing and manufacturing to produce the desired effect.
